Clothing can make or break a portrait session. It is important not to match but to coordinate similar colors but to be comfortable at the same time. Texture & layers are important too. For women & girls that's simple! Try adding scarves, jewelry, headbands, bows, fun colors, etc. I've included 4 different scenarios below.
The first example I have is for all of you engaged couples. As you can see I chose blues & browns for this example but any color scheme could easily work for this. If you are newly engaged, you want to be a bit dressier but still staying casual & comfortable.

The second example is specifically for little girls. I think that little girls have the most potential to look adorable because there are so many different options. I chose pinks, yellows & oranges for this example because I think they look the best on little ones. As you can see I love things with frills & layered skirts & dresses. They also add nice layers without over doing it. Other props such as hats, headbands & even rain boots & umbrellas make excellent additions for a portrait session.

Here is another example for girls 12 years & under. Same concept as above!

The third example is for boys & men. They are sometimes the hardest to dress since they don't have as many options for layering & such. Khaki shorts & a simple t-shirt are usually the best choice. Men also look good in dark jeans paired with a button up shirt. For the summer time, button up shirts look good with the sleeves rolled up. For boys, try to avoid distracting patterns, logos & characters on shirts. Simple is better. Also, boys shoes are often multi- colored & have distracting patterns. Try to find them plain shoes that match their outfit.

The fourth & last example I have is for a family of four. I chose blacks, grays & pinks for the color scheme. I gave the girls some cute accessories, keeping the boys simple but not matching. A lot of people want to match exactly what everyone is wearing to keep it easy but I beg you not to do that! There are ways to keep everything simple but still dressing everyone different with their own style.

Here is another example for the more casual type. Gray, white, brown & a bit of pink for the girls.

This is an example for winter time. I used green, red, gray & black for this example.
